REQUEST YOUR REPORT
“Strong brand” is too broad on its own. A useful finding identifies the evidence, explains what it suggests and states the limits of that conclusion.
Illustrative example: suppose a retailer reports that most sales come from one country. That concentration could be a weakness if demand falls there. Expansion into a second market might be an opportunity, but only if there is evidence of customer demand and a workable route to market. The same sales figure does not establish both conclusions by itself.
Read strengths and weaknesses as features of the business. Read opportunities and threats as conditions outside it. A proposed action, such as launching a new product, belongs in the discussion of next steps; it is not automatically an opportunity.
CHECK THE EVIDENCE
Company websites, annual reports and investor materials are useful starting points. Public records such as SEC EDGAR filings and the UK Companies House register can help establish the company identity and disclosed financial information.
Recent developments need recent evidence. Older filings may still explain the business model, but their figures should be read with the reporting period in mind. Private companies often publish less financial information. The report should make those limits visible rather than fill them with guesses.
A SWOT report is a starting point for investigation. It cannot predict sales, investment returns or the outcome of a business decision.
